Former State Official Eliud Owalo Launches People’s Prosperity Party (PPP), Declares 2027 Presidential Bid

NAIROBI, KENYA — Former ICT Cabinet Secretary and immediate past Deputy Chief of Staff, Eliud Owalo, has officially shaken up the country’s political landscape by launching a new political outfit, the People’s Prosperity Party (PPP). Speaking during a high-profile launch event yesterday at the Nyayo National Stadium, Owalo formally declared his intention to contest the presidency in the upcoming 2027 general elections, promising a radical paradigm shift in the management of Kenya's economy and vowing to mount a formidable challenge against the current administration.

Centering his platform on an aggressive economic turnaround, Owalo stated that Kenya requires a fresh start driven by pro-growth fiscal policies and immediate relief for both small businesses and the middle class. To achieve this, the People's Prosperity Party has unveiled a series of sweeping legislative proposals aimed at lowering the cost of living and stimulating private enterprise. Chief among these proposals is a plan to reduce the top income tax bracket from thirty-five percent down to twenty-nine percent, alongside a substantial cut to the Value Added Tax, which the party proposes to lower from sixteen percent to ten percent.
Leveraging his background in the technology and digital economy sectors, Owalo also pledged to completely eliminate the current digital taxes, framing the move as an essential step to foster innovation and bolster employment opportunities for Kenyan youth. Backed by a growing network of economic advisors, regional leaders, and grassroots mobilizers, the newly formed party announced that it will immediately embark on a aggressive nationwide registration drive over the coming weeks, intentionally targeting key urban centers and strategic agricultural hubs to build momentum ahead of the 2027 polls.
